Coach Amelia Álamo—51kg Clean & Jerk

Coach Amelia is no stranger to the International Stage taking Gold in October last year at the Cork Open, Ireland, with a 42kg Snatch; 51kg Clean & Jerk for a 93kg Total. However, maintaining a sense of calm at this International proved challenging.

She decided to open lighter than usual with 37kg in the Snatch, which she later admitted was a mistake since it was too light. Getting one rule out at 37kg she finished with an easy 40kg. The Clean & Jerk started more promisingly with a solid 47kg opener, but a 50kg rule out caused her to play safe, for a 51kg finish.

Coach Amelia has been training hard leading up to the event aiming for a 44kg Snatch and 54kg Clean & Jerk — both easily within sight given she had totalled 95kg just under three weeks ago at the club Iron Session 21·04·18 event.

She says, 'Even though I am disappointed by the total I got, 91kg: Snatch 40kg and Clean & Jerk 51kg, I gained the experience of taking part in another International Competition and handling my nerves in the best way I could. As Coach Pat said, “I have more to fight for and I am on my way, so onwards to the next one.”’

We know after a well deserved break she will return to training more focused and determined than ever to achieve the 105kg qualifying total required for the English Championships.
