Obituary: Alan Oldershaw

Alan was a member of the Redriff weightlifting club in Bermondsey, south London, for many years until its closure in the late 1990s, competing in both Power and Olympic weightlifting in the London league from the 1960s until it was disbanded in the late 1980s.

Alan was also a Cat 1 referee in both powerlifting and weightlifting.

Always with a smile, he was a well liked face on the British and Southern Masters scene, still competing in his late 70s.

He joins other old timers like Bob Crisp, Derek Stewart and Phil McAvoy who have passed away in the last few years. Gone but not forgotten.

He leaves behind a loving wife, Heather, who cared for him until the end.

May you find peace in the knowledge that he suffers no more .

Rest in peace, Alan, ‘til we meet again.

Yours in lifting,

From all at the Hackney and Bethnal Green Weight Lifting Clubs
